The Hockey Rink is a rink of ice that is specially designed for the ice hockey game. It has a rectangular shape having the corners rounded. It is surrounded by a one meter wall that is called as the boards. There are two standard sizes of hockey rinks that are present as of today. There may be further innovations in the future. One of the rinks is used in North America and the second type is used in rest of the globe. The National Hockey League has certain specifications for building the rinks. According to its rules, the hockey rink has to be 200 feet by 85 feet. Its corners have to be of the radius of 8.5 meters. The distance of the boards and the nearest line of goal has to be 3.4 meters. The distance of the blue line and each of the goals has to be 64 feet. The blue lines have to be 50 feet apart from each other. Two widths of lines are painted on the hockey rink. The thick lines are 30 centimeters wide and the thin lines are 5 centimeters wide.
Zones of the Rink:
The hockey rink is divided into three zones by the blue lines. The central zone is called the neutral zone. The zone at the end, where the teams try and score is called the attacking zone and the end zone, where the team’s goal net is placed, is called the defending zone. With the changing times in the sport, the modifications in the rink zones cannot be neglected.
